How many hours of TV do you watch every day? Be honest, you dont have to say it out loud or anything…just think it. Think it real good… and keep reading.
Don’t freak out on me here, I’m not going to tell you not to watch your favorite FRIENDS reruns. But I am going to recommend that you keep it to just one or two episodes. A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association has shown that for every 2 hours spent watching TV, obesity risk jumps 23% and type 2 diabetes jumps 14%. The reason? Probably a few things- but mostly the sedentary nature of the activity as well as the increased incidence of eating while watching TV.
Of course, eating and watching TV is not inherently a recipe for obesity. But keep in mind the risks of inactivity and maybe do a push up or two on a commercial break.
