Garlic is one of those foods that you either love or hate. For a while, whether or not you enjoyed this odorously potent member of the onion family, it was touted to have glowing health benefits. BUT as is often the case, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
New research in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition concludes that there is “not enough credible evidence” linking garlic to a lower risk of cancers including gastric, breast, lung, and endometrial. That’s a big bummer for those folks who pop garlic pills daily. There is however, “very limited” credible evidence that garlic may slightly reduce the risk of colon, prostate or esophageal cancer.
Bottom line: garlic is win-win situation. If you are a garlic hater, there are plenty other members of the onion family that will do your body good…maybe even better than garlic! And if you like garlic, eat up! It wont hurt anything but your breath…
…and maybe your chances at getting a date for Saturday night.
