Flossing for your Health

Let’s be honest. I’m a little obsessed with oral hygene. But some faithful flossing and brushing never hurt anyone. In fact, you might get an added health bonus besides just minty fresh breath.

Research shows that periodontal disease (inflammation of the gums caused from plaque build up) and heart disease are related. The bacteria that builds up around your gums is the same bacteria that forms the plaque which clogs your arteries. The medical journal, Circulation, cites pericoronitis (inflamation of the gums around the molars) as one of the top dental predictor of heart disease.

What to do? Floss daily to get the grime out from in between your teeth that your toothbrush cant reach, and swish away with mouthwash which helps to kill the bacteria around your gums that lead to plaque buildup. Your breath, smile AND heart will thank you.
